Underland irrigation ollas by Meliflor have been designed to be buried almost completely. When positioning them, dig a small hole in the substrate and insert the olla. Then add more substrate around it, leaving both the neck and lid uncovered.
Now you can fill your olla with water and the amount of fertilizer recommended by the manufacturer. The roots will feed on this as they need.
To know whether you need to refill the olla, open the lid and check the level of liquid. If you're dealing with plants that require large quantities of water or are located in a dry area, increase the number of ollas per plant pot.
